A conversation with Vinny

Vinny: Hey mommy, what are those scratches on your tummy?
Mom: Those scratches are called stretch marks.
Vinny: How did you get them?
Mom: I got them because my tummy had to stretch out really big so you can grow big and healthy.
Vinny: Oh, okay!!!

Sorry!!! A heartfelt apology.........

To my wonderful audience, I am truly, deeply sorry for my absence. One word describes my absence.........FACEBOOK!!!
I love facebook and all it has to offer. I love to hear people complain, whine, and be happy. Its too much fun! Oh yeah, I love Farmtown!!!!!!!
So here is what we've been up to..
* We went to the Happiest Place on Earth over the summer for a few days
* Went swimming
* Been to Cali every few weeks
*Football season is in full effect in my household
*I'm back at school to finish my nursing degree
*Kids also started school
Then............

I did one of the most amazing things ever.
I participated in the Disneyland Half Marathon on September 6, 2009. For those that don't know runners lingo, a half marathon is 13.1 miles. So my parents asked me a few months ago if I wanted to do it and I said sure. I stressed at first then let it go. I trained about 3-4 times a week and did pretty good. Like I said to everyone, I am no professional runner but I am no quitter.
So the day came and we woke up at 3:30. We got to Disneyland about 4:30. It was a cool 64'. I was so nervous that morning [just ask the toilet....sorry TMI], I couldn't wait to start it. So we lined up and the butterflies were slowly disappearing. We then started and crossed the start line with Mickey and Minnie waving us on. I turned my Ipod on and set myself up on cruise control. It was so fabulous!!! We ran through California Adventures and Disneyland during the first leg of the race. Then we ran on the streets of Anaheim. The entire time I had tons of people in front of me and behind me so I wasn't lonely. We ran through the parking lot of the Honda Center then across the street to the Angels Stadium [picture above is inside the stadium] . This was about mile 9 and my hamstrings were starting to bother me. By mile 10, I couldn't take it. I walked from mile 10 through 11. Lots of pain and stopping to massage them and stretch the muscles out. Then we approached California Adventures for the last mile and I ran it all. I was so tired and the running seemed to help abit. I saw the finish line and couldn't believe my eyes. I crossed it and said "Wow, I finished my first half marathon....Congrats me!!!!".
My time was 3 hours 8 minutes 9 seconds.
Not bad for my first 1/2 Marathon.
It was the best feeling ever!!! I promise I will do it again next year. More pictures of the day to come later.

Expect the Unexpected

Vinny will have surgery tomorrow morning. It came to a shock to all of us. The break is worse than we thought and the bones keep shifting outward causing them not to heal correctly. Keep him in your thoughts as the doctors place a pin on his radius bone. If I have time, I'll post something tomorrow.

First broken bone for one of our little ones.

Boy its been a crazy day! I know I haven't blogged in awhile. I've had lots of things going on but that's another story.
Look who made it to our families history book for being the first child to break a bone....no other than VINNY!!!

I get a call around 11 from the nurse that Vinny had hurt his wrist before lunch. He was crossing over the monkey bars and fell on his wrist. I talk to him on the phone and he sounds like a different person. His cry was unfamiliar and full of pain. So I rush down there. The nurse lets me take a peak at his wrist [it was in a sling] and I lost my marbles at that time. I look away and cried so he wouldn't see me. I then put my sunglasses so he wouldn't see the tears. I quickly sign him out of school along with Joseph. My friend gets Vinny settled in the front seat and my sweet neighbor takes Joseph.

I was very hesitant about taking him to our little towns hospital. I've heard amillion horror stories. So we get there and sign some insurance forms. We are seen within 10 minutes. They put a new sling on him and Gabriel arrives within that time. He is whisked away to x-rays where the doctor confirms the news on his injuries. He broke the 2 bones right below his wrist.

[When I look at this image, all I can say is "OUCH, poor guy"!!!
The doctor also told us to wait until around 5:00p.m. so they could put Vinny to sleep so they could re-align his bones. They couldn't do it after the x-rays because I hand feed him on our way to the hospital [I know, unsafe!] So Vinny got his own private room with a T.V. and hung out until 5. I left around 2:15 to come home and tend to the other kids. According to Gabe, it took quite abit of anesthesia to knock out Vinny. He had no pain meds until before he fell asleep tonight. I'm telling you, he's so strong! I'll keep you posted on his condition.
